Are you colorblind? Does any other member of your family have it too? Perhaps your mother? Color blindness primarily affects men and is caused by genes inherited from their mothers.
This is due to a single maternal X chromosome defect that is not compensated for. Unlike their sons, women are still able to distinguish between colors because they inherited their fathers’ “emergency” X chromosome.
Since there are plenty of free tests for colorblindness online, encourage your mother to take them with you. You can tell you and her apart unless your X chromosome is flawed.
